At the end of his life Auguste Rodin, the great 19th century French sculptor, made a series of revolutionary figure drawings. He would work 'blind', keeping his eyes strictly on the model while not looking at the drawing. Afterwords he would enhance & define the image with watercolour washes. For me they remain unsurpassed in their unity and vitality:
